Scope
This article describes an error where the SIMS Link cannot detect SIMS to retrieve student data.
Symptoms
When running the SIMS Link v44, it shows the following error message: Couldn’t find SIMS.net command reporter: no such file in directory.
Cause
The SIMS Link v44 is unable to find SIMS‘ command reporter file which tells third-party programs where SIMS is located to run their reports.
Resolution
- Go to This PC > C: Drive > Program Files > SIMS > SIMS .net.
- Note: If the SIMS folder is not in Program Files, go to Program Files (x86).
- Right-click CommandReport.exe > Properties.
- In Properties, copy the Location > Close.
- Hold the Windows key > press R.
- In Run, enter sims.ini > OK.
- This will open sims.ini in Notepad. For SIMSDotNetDirectory= > paste the location you copied from the CommandReporter.exe.
- Save > run the SIMS Link v44 again.
- Note: If you are unable to save the file, you will need your school’s IT Administrator to make this change for you.
